As you age, you lose fat from the tissue under your skin. Wrinkle fillers or dermal fillers such as Restylane, Radiesse or Belotero, etc, can be used to ‘fill in’ the folds in the skin giving a smoother, more youthful appearance.
Filling lines and adding volume
These fillers can be used to treat lines around the mouth (smile lines, marionette lines or smokers lines) and nose (nasolabial lines; nasolabial grooves) and to enhance lip volume (lip injections) or to enhance the cheeks or chin. When used as a lip injection, they enhance outline and volume, making the lips balanced and healthier-looking.
Although there are different brand names of dermal fillers, all are based on non-animal hyaluronic acid. When injected into the skin at different depths, the substance fills the treated area giving a younger-looking, healthier appearance. Being from natural sources, allergic reactions are very rare.
Unlike permanent implants, fillers bind water so the molecules gradually dissolve over time without leaving any trace in the body. The effect lasts around six months depending on factors such as the structure of the skin, age, etc.
Fillers can be used with muscle relaxing injections or as an alternative to them.
What your filler treatment will involve
At DermoMedix, all dermal filler sessions include a free consultation with Dr Foroughi. This provides an opportunity for you to talk in-depth about the procedure, and to ask as many questions as necessary for you to decide whether or not you feel the treatment is right for you.
A topical or local anaesthetic may be used to minimise discomfort. Normal activities can be resumed immediately.
Depending on the area being treated, the session will normally take between 30 minutes and an hour. Treatments include a follow-up about two weeks later.
